Overview of custom images
A custom image is an image you create based on an instance or snapshot. It contains deployed applications, data, and other information. Using a custom image, you can quickly create more instances of the same configuration without repeating the configuration operation every time you create an instance.
We have found that many customer instances are generating issues that prevent remote connections from being made. These problems may occur as a result of having various environments deployed.Common failures may be caused by the following actions.
Making changes to the system image provided by LightNode within the host, including but not limited to:
- Reinstalling the system
- Upgrading the system
- Installing a routing system
- Installing control panels that change the system environment
If you have performed the above operations and the server cannot connect remotely, please reinstall the instance in the user console.
We value every piece of customer data and modifying the system image on your own will result in unrecoverable damage, so be sure to use the user console to make system changes.
Additional Notes Do not remove the qemu-agent process from the operating system, as this will cause password authentication to fail when you log in to the operating system, and will also disable the reset password feature. Also, if you generate a custom image with an operating system that has deleted the qemu-agent process and use it to create a host again, the deployment will fail. Also, please do not stop or delete the NetworkManager process on Linux systems. The system obtains IP configuration information through this process and stopping it will cause the server network to go down and prevent remote access.
Restrictions
- Only five custom images can be created in one region under one account.
- You can only create custom images when the host turns on.
- The custom image can only be used in the same region and the same zone.
- The custom image is independent of the ECS instance and snapshot. It can only be deleted manually.
