What is a snapshot?

A snapshot is a backup file of the disk data state at a certain point in time. The first snapshot of the disk is the full snapshot of the actual usage. The subsequent snapshots are incremental snapshots and only change data blocks are stored.

Functions of snapshot

  • Rollback the hard disk
  • Create mirrors with a system snapshot
  • Create a new disk with a data-disk snapshot

    Application scenario

  • Backups to prevent disasters
  • Copy the whole development Environment
  • Improve fault tolerance

    Restrictions

  • Snapshots are regionly restricted, and snapshots can only be created on mirrors or drives in the same region as the snapshot.
  • Currently only one snapshot can be created on a disk.
  • Snapshots are released as the host or drive is freed.
